Appearance: Sarika's olive skin is very pale, her dark brown eyes narrow. At the time of writing this, her sleek black hair is still growing back, and her usual permed curls are actually extensions. She has a slender, almost average frame, with a short torso and gangly legs. She never smiles and always looks bored and a little superior. She wears chunky, bright jewelry (when she can). Her nails, worn down by art and biting and the like, are quite stubby, and usually coated in clear polish.
If not wearing a uniform, Sarika likes COLORS. In fact, she even tries to sneak them into her uniform subtly. She wears multicolored socks under her uniform ones, and will occasionally turn up the cuff to show them off.

History: A victim of the city scene, Shane grew up in a giant mesh of cultures. Though her father is a successful politician, he believed in a normal life for his children - one that, until recently, did not involve snobby private schools. She was objected to a rather failing public school for several years, a time during which she became detached and "alternative" and liberal. She had friends in everyone, somehow managing to balance popularity with being dorky—as she was very smart, but somewhat avoidant of studying. She slipped through the cracks of her family, divided between her perfect older sister and her two younger siblings. She had already absorbed this culture completely by the time her parents wised up and cried "oh fuck, private school!"
The older she got, however, "Shane" felt increasing pressure to fit in with those cooler people. She became more outrageous and outspoken as time went by. The nickname "Shane" – the only name she will answer to (in public) was a result of this time period.
Then, about two years ago, she shaved her head without warning. Her parents, who had either or ignored or merely tolerated her earlier behavior, finally decided to intervene in her life. It was largely due to her influence that she made a bid for entering such a prestigious school at all.
In fact, were Shane to have her choice, she would not have given Second Heaven a second glance. But, well…Smile and nod and do advanced algebra, yes?
Personality: Sarika is unfortunately torn between wanting to be a nice person and wanting to be popular. Unfortunately, the children she grew up with had a very limited definition of popular. She is so desperate to be liked that she is wiling to sacrifice the independence that she has fought for. She tries extremely hard to act "cool", never smiles, and pretends to be bored with little, beautiful things when they really overwhelm her. She is also amazingly multicultural, though she does not often show "un-American" traits.
She tries too hard.
That head-shaving thing? Shane claimed that it was so she could paint anti-war slogans and turn her scalp into art. In reality, Shane shaved her head to be bald-buddies with a friend undergoing chemotherapy.
Sarika is not very expressive verbally, so she chooses to speak with her art. She is prone to very bold statements, bright colors, and sharp, angular designs, but her charcoal sketches show a much softer side and an innate love of nature.
She is a decent student, naturally very smart but prone to believing that there are more important things than studying (art, for example)—and as a middle child, she manages to escape parental guilting. If she pays attention, she always has the right answer, but she is more apt to daydream instead of reading over her notes (all of which are covered in absent little doodles).
She tries too hard. Really.
Since coming to Second Heaven, Shane's "badass" streak has toned down severely, and she is more apt to express herself naturally.
